A hot hot hot project
An innovation project in domestic ovens providing professional grill functions never seen before.
Cooking it as a team
As with any project, the key is to work as a team, knowing the client's opinion and contributing our experience and skills.
– Client: Teka Group.
– Project Name: Steak Master.
– Year: 2019.
– Target: Europe, Upper-middle class.
– Description: Domestic oven with barbecue functionalities.
– Services offered: Multidisciplinary team from the Workplane Design studio in Barcelona.
The creation of a new feature, never before incorporated in a domestic oven, brought new challenges in every work area:
Industrial Design: The challenge at the technical level, as in the design of the grill had to resist much more heat than conventional ones and be multifunctional so that the grill could be used in different positions.
In visual design: the new iconography had to be integrated into the existing interface with the rest of the oven, with the technical limitation of only being able to use 4 colors on the screen at the same time. This also affected the screen for accessing the new function.
User Experience: The oven interface had to be presented in a differentiated way, since it has predefined cooking programs different from the conventional ones, and it also had to provide the opportunity to use it in “free” mode, respecting the safety guidelines and notifications required by this function.
Customer Experience: The graphic differentiation for when the product is displayed in the store along with other ovens, we worked to have the Steak Master functionality have its own logo added on the door to connote that it is not a conventional Teka oven.
– Not having a product with the same characteristics on the market
That the new functionality was very well integrated into the product.
– The display has a memory and color limitation allowing only 4 colors at the same time counting black.
– To create an in-store image that would stand out among the other furnaces on display.
Awards for good design and innovation.
– EUROPEAN DESIGN AWARD 2021
– GOOD DESIGN AWARDS 2021
– MOST INNOVATIVE PRODUCT 2020 from the TEKA GROUP
The good sales it is having. The high acceptance in the specialized fairs. Our satisfaction when we see the finished product. The continuity with other projects with this client, (in spite of not having been launched yet).
Workplaners in:
In this project our collaboration was in the fields of: CX, UX, Visual Design, Engineering and of course Industrial Design.
Basic information such as temperature, duration and manual cooking modes are carefully organized to avoid visual confusion.
In the area of UX design and interaction we were faced with the challenge of making a prototype of screens taking into account that the screen was not tactile and the navigation is done with the controls on the right and left, we had to guide the user very well in this. new functionality never seen before in the domestic oven market and we had to avoid as much as possible the possible errors of use and to ensure satisfaction with the product and obviously an optimal baking result.
In visual design, the new iconography had to be integrated into the existing interface with the rest of the oven, with the technical limitation of only being able to use 4 colors on the screen at the same time. which also affected the screen for accessing the new function.
The graphic differentiation for when the product is displayed in store along with other ovens, we worked on the Steak Master functionality to have its own logo added to the door to connote that it is not a conventional Teka oven.
